November 13, 2007 Students The second quarter has begun! Think Tank is finished, but if you need a bit of extra help, I will still be available during lunch or after school. All you need to do is ask. Please don't be shy! If you do not understand an assignment, it is better to ask a few questions than to struggle through it on your own. Usually all it takes is a few minutes to get you back on track. You can also check out my study tips for ideas on how to keep up in math. Remember, it is your responsibility to stay current on your homework, even if you miss a class for whatever reason. Check the web site for the assignments you miss if you are not in class, and pick up the handouts from the crates in our classroom. I won't be accepting any late homework this quarter, so stay on top of your assignments! Algebra P1/P2 We continue work on functions and equations this month, as well as constant review of number sense topics. We will be doing more work with the cyber manipulitaves on the fantastic UNLV site. Algebra We finish the unit on linear functions this week and start on systems of two linear functions. Mathletes The 7th grade team tied for first in Round 1 of the county competitions on November 13!!! Congratulations for a job well done!!! Mathletes practice continues on Monday afternoons in Ms. Wethington's classroom. All interested students are welcome and you are encouraged to give Mathletes a try. We have fun and sharpen our problem solving skills. Hall has a talented bunch of math students, a great math program, and our very own mathematics teacher extradordinaire, Mr. Pankler, will be presenting the competitions this year. The complete Mathletes schedule and rules can be found here! Go Hall Mathletes!
Parents Please check the website if your child misses school for assignments. Help your child suceed in algebra by monitoring their math journals frequently. If your child needs help, encourage them to look at the examples in the book and to think of how their homework is similar or different from the examples. I am always available via phone or email for your questions or concerns. |
